Origin Story

The Monday Music Education Institute (MMEI) began as a shared vision among a group of musicians and educators, each bringing their own unique cultural and linguistic background to the table. Having trained in conservatories, Suzuki, Dalcroze, and Kodály methods, and with years of experience in performance, teaching, and research, they discovered a common passion: to create a space where music education could be both inspired by artistry and grounded in inquiry.

From this vision, MMEI grew into a place where diversity and inclusion are at the heart of learning. Students, teachers, and communities come together to explore music not just as notes on a page, but as a means to spark curiosity, creativity, and meaningful connection.

Mission

The Monday Music Education Institute is a Massachusetts 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing music education through research, innovation, and practical learning. We explore and develop effective methods of teaching and learning music, focusing on children’s holistic and positive growth.

By sharing research findings and teaching practices, we aim to enhance educational quality, inspire collaboration, and promote continual improvement among educators and learners.

Vision

The Monday Music Education Institute integrates music research and educational practice to explore innovative and transformative models of music teaching and learning. We envision a community where educators and students grow together through curiosity, creativity, and reflective learning, shaping a more inspired, inclusive and sustainable future for music education.

Research

We investigate new approaches to music learning and teaching through interdisciplinary and evidence-based research. Our studies explore how music education can better support students’ cognitive, emotional, and social development, and how teachers can adopt reflective, adaptive, and sustainable teaching practices.

Social Emotional Development (SEL)

Students develop self-awareness, empathy, emotional regulation, and teamwork through music education.

Collaborative learning, ensemble playing, and reflective practice provide the experiences that cultivate these skills, which not only enhance their musical growth but also empower them to navigate life with confidence and resilience.
